Seems kind of lame, then. If you want the DLC, you have to buy a toy. If you only want the DLC, that makes it pretty damn expensive. Personally, I have zero interest in "collectibles". If I'm going to buy a figurine for display purposes, it's not going to be low-end. Of the Amiibo I've seen, the only one I'd drop $5 on would be Captain Toad.
I don't have a problem with Amiibo existing but, let's be honest, it's a way to get money. Cheap, easy to create DLC bundled to cheap, high-profit globs of plastic. Nothing to protest but nothing that should be celebrated, either.
I still think they're missing the Skylander/Infinity boat with kids, however, without something fun to tie the figurines together.
