Melee gameplay wasn't better. It was cheap and easy to exploit (So many Foxes). 4 is more polished.

And even with clones, their characters were better than 4. Still, Melee gameplay is better.

You cannot logically say Melee had the better roster when the only thing extra they have going for them is Pichu, Roy, Young Link, and Ice Climbers. There are so many newcomers in Smash 4 that are all way better (Except arguably Ice Climbers).
