Has the sequel of a game you liked ever gone exclusive to a console you didn't own?

PS1 controllers work with PS2 games for example. I don't get why Xenoblade wouldn't work with the Wii U Pro controller if it works with the Classic Controller.

Because it boots up the Wii OS, and the Wii isn't compatible with Wii U controllers.
