I think your i7 CPU, mobile or not, should be great for PS2 emulation.

My old Core 2 Duo E8400 wasn't capable of emulating PS2. Here are comparisions of my old and your CPU:

My new i5-4570 is great, it only goes up max to about 25% usage when emulating PS2 games on all 4 cores.
