Nintendo won't do that because it's position on the industry and the nature of their systems. In fact' a paid internet service from Nintendo would kill a good percentage of some of its best selling titles, like Mario Kart and Pokemon. ote StudiosI know.I'm still shocked that neither the PS4 or the XBone offers a free online multiplayer. If Sony announced free multiplayer for the PS4, it would kill half the sales of the XBone, killing the console in cold blood. The same with the XBone, a free multiplayer could gave it the edge it needs to threaten Playstation dominance. But both companies are too comfortable with their subscription systems.

PS3 had free online and it didn't help Sony against MS and the X360 last gen, did it ?

Yes, but the PS4 has a very important edge already, free online could take away a lot of sales from the XBone.

I used to believe that free online was a system seller.  But MS and X360 proved me wrong last gen.

Nowadays I'd say that having a paid but  good online system with a big community is the real system seller.

I know a lot of people who owned X360 last gen and wanted to migrate to PS4, but won't do so because of their friend list on XBL.
