For Microsoft to have done something innovative, they had to have done it first. However, what MS did was not innovating, but popularizing what other companies already did years before the company threw its hat into the console ring. Throwing in Windows is largely irrelevent because had Mac OS, Unix, or Linux was the most popular operating system, then PC games would be developed for those OS's. However, I would not give Apple or the Linux distros credit because it's just more convenient and financially smarter to develop games for that particular OS.

Which console had hard drives standard first?

Which console had a service like Xbox Live first?

Which console had an ethernet port before XBox?

Which console had achievements before Xbox 360?

All done FIRST by Microsoft. And no, some dumb patches from 1976 don't equal achievements.
