This part is misquoted very often. Pretty much every time I see it. It was something to the effect of: "If people can't afford it, we'd like to think that it's a console people wouldn't mind working two jobs to afford."
WiiU isn't weaker than PS3/X360. It has 4 times as much RAM, for example. Only thing I can think of that was better (on paper) was the PS3 processor, but it's potential was too hard to reach due to PS3 being so difficult to program for.
That was just a tech demo though of Wii U's capabilities. They mentioned that, so I don't think most people expected it to look like that. After all, they did this on the Gamecube as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wBtAvX4Pkyk And Wind Waker ended up looking completely different. |
Yeah I purposely misquoted it (I looked up the exact quotes online) just to get straight to the point. Like for example I know the "PS3 will teach discipline. Everyone will know discipline!" quote is also a myth. But yeah Sony was major arrogant during the first few years of the PS3. Nintendo is super stubborn. At least Sony changed but Nintendo is getting even MORE stubborn.
The Wii U should be significantly more powerful than the PS3/360 though. The fact is that so many people THINK (including me) the Wii U is less powerful than the 360/PS3 and then Nintendo sells it for $349 that is the problem. If they sold it for $199 less people would complain.
Yeah I know it was a tech demo, but I really wish they went with that art style. Could you imagine a Zelda game with graphics like Dark Souls + Nintendo's colorful touch? Wow. Talk about a system seller!

That reaction to TP is the greatest E3 reaction ever. People really wanted a realistic Zelda game. That's what people want and Nintendo needs to get that. The Souls series and its spin offs have now replaced Zelda as the definitive action adventure/puzzle/dungeon franchise.
