Anyone hoping that the next console and handheld will be single screen hardware with "no gimmicks" will be disappointed.

3D is staying. Dual screens, on both handheld AND consoles, are staying. The gamepad is staying.

Nintendo is forcing the Gamepad on Splatoon, Zelda U, Mario Party 10, and especially Star Fox, when they absolutely do not have to. It's not going anywhere. Nintendo just announced the New 3DS where they spent R&D money improving the 3D screen. It's not going anywhere.

Nintendo is clearly still investing in both. We'll see the same type of revision to the gamepad that the N3DS got to the 3D screen. They aren't abandoning anything.
