That would be an interesting idea but I don't think Nintendo wants to get out of the hardware business yet, maybe in 2-3 generations something like that would be feasible for Nintendo to do.
But this type of device wouldn't really be competing with PS/XB directly. A $150 device with $10-40 software doesn't really aim for the same audience as $300-400 devices with $60 software.
Nintendo didnt seal their fate with Wii, they simply made mistakes with the Wii U that they have to live with and ride it out. Ur last sentence makes absolutely no sense, why would Nintendo always have to be like the Wii?
