I think Bayonetta is as good as God of War gameplay wise, obviously GoW will always come out on top in graphics which is important to some, others, not so much. (although I don't like Bayonetta's overly sexual tones, it's just eye-rolling for me) Greek Mythos appeals to me more than whatever Bayo's story/world is.

Just to point one thing out, it is funny that people are arguing about overly sexual female characters. It's not like male characters, especially Kratos, arent. That chracter is 296% gender cliche, just for western audience.

Bayonetta is cliche as hell, but with lots of humour.

It is quite funny to see people always point out, how overdone Bayonetta and at the same time ignore the same stuff with male, western characters in many games, that are often totally free of humour and self irony.

As for the OP: Plain no. Bayonetta 2 wasn't the answer to God of War.

It was just a great opportunity to fund a game for the hardcore audience. To bad to many gamers prefer to ignore a great game and keep on lamenting how it could have looked on another platform instead of buy and play a game, that would have never, ever existed without Nintendo.

When I look at kratos, I don't think sexy or seductive. I think of rage incarnate. I know Bayonetta was made to be more "cartoony" in a sense, exaggerated in a humorous and sexy way.

Male characters are made to be the badass/suave every guy wants to be, so I don't understand why SOME female leads are made to be so focused on their sex appeal. I mean I know why, cause sex sells and Japan has a tendency to be "perverted" in the eyes of many. There are lots of strong women in gaming, especially recently (Lara Croft, Ellie, Clementine, Female Shepard, the chick from Mirror's Edge, etc) Personally, I don't like overly sexually leads, that's just my preference and I don't speak for everybody.

To sidetrack a bit, It is also why I dislike excessive "Fan-service" in animes. When they make "humorous" panty shots, raunchy camera angles, clothing "malfunctions", etc. I don't like strong, sexual themes in my animes/games because they pull me out of the experience, personally. It's hard to explain, I just dislike it. It's the same thing with Bayo. Her raunch nature just puts me off.
