God of War is just an exaggerated homage to what Greek mythology was. Based on a screwed up family who controlled the balance of how things worked on the planet above the likes of human kind while struggling with Titans. Kratos is just a character whose story is a mixture of hercules and other characters. This could easily be recreated and people would believe it because Zeus was a whore of a god, who caused bastard children to be born. It gave birth to the notion of a hero, because of course gods cannot be heroes. This is the reason why heroes (Yes..heroes) like Kratos, Perseus, Hercules and others had to exist. Heroes did what had to be done, bloody and all...not what was right. Kratos is a homage to that truth. People have a romanticized view of Greek mythology just as they do with Disney movies until they read the actual Grimms brothers tales. If you want a fucked up TV show about dystunctional families look no further than Greek Mythology.

The idea of a superhero comes from Greek mythology but is a romanticized American idealized version of it, no different than Disney stories which were much darker than one would've thought. Do you think little kids would've been allowed to watch Snow White if they knew the Queen had Snow White become a fugitive because she wanted to kill her and consume her heart, thus claiming the beauty of her essence?

I don't think any of us will argue that Greek Mythology is cool, but that doesn't make God of War a good representation or a good story. If anything, it just shows how GoW piggybacked off of something much better to allow it to get acclaim for its story

God of War is a weak story (and Kratos is a weak character) with some cool lore

Greek mythology is also weak, which is why the majority of them converted to Christianity. God of War didnt tarnish the screwed up nature of Greek mythology, the mythology was already dark, mischevious, incestuous, sexual (in more ways than one including beastiality) bloody and always a struggle for control to begin with. If Kratos was considered a real demi-god or god back in those days he would've been looked at no different than Heracles or Ares. Also being the only demi-god to be allowed to become a full god.

Seriously? What woman (Hera) breast feeds her bastard step child giving him god-like strength and then tries to kill him with serpents as a toddler? Seriously. She knows her husband cheated and gives favor only for it to lead to murder? Heracles as a name in itself means "heras glory" yes...the same child she tried to kill. That whole mythological family was screwed up from Hera and Heracles the way down to Zeus with this father Chronos.
