There was nothing on the original DS that matched the scale of of the Pokemon 3DS games with comparable presentation. On the next handheld though, there will be Xenoblade Chronicles to compare them to. If Pokemon can't be made to the same scale as Xenoblade 3D on hardware much stronger than the N3DS, what on Earth is the point of buying new hardware for it? Aside from the transition between Gens 4 and 5, each Pokemon has been a significant upgrade in graphics and presentation. Gen 6 was the first one where diminishing returns hit so hard, though. Clearly XY look leagues better, graphically, than any 4-5 Gen Pokemon game, but the leap still didn't feel significant enough. Now that we have 3D Pokemon, that won't be a selling point anymore. Gen 7 needs to be that next significant upgrade, and with the Pokemon already looking console ready in battle, simply cleaning that up won't be enough. Especially on new hardware significantly stronger than the previous one that supported the largest full scale open world JRPG in current history. They will finally have everything they need on a handheld, where the most people could say will be "it could look so much prettier on a console" as opposed to "it could reach it's full potencial on a console." They'll have the power. They'll have the space. They'll have the second analog stick. They'll have everything they haven't had at all yet from any of the handhelds up until New 3DS. |
I don't want Pokemon to look like Xenoblade, it would totally lost the tone of the game, its identity, its design and would take more than 5 years to create for diminishing returns as it would lost a lot of appeal.
Xenoblade was a true masterpiece, but it has absolutely nothing in common with Pokemon. Pokemon will look better,, but it absolutely does not need the scale of Xenoblade, nor the full 3D view and the more realistics models.
