Can someone explain me or give the link to the right topic where i can find the reason why everybody is taking the npd numbers as facts?

https://www.npd.com/wps/portal/npd/us/industry-expertise/video-games/

that links helps nothing( i can find the official website of em myself thanks). they dont go into any detail. isnt there a thread about it? i could find it via search...

They are selling their data to a lot of companies, including Sony and MS. Why do you think they are not to be believed? Do you think their data is off? Do you have better data or hints they are wrong with anything?

the data could be off and still usefull for companys, and i dont think they pay just for tracking, they pay for more indepth data. and this data could be off and realy usefull. and no i dont have better numbers, and i dont wanna say they are wrong, i just wanna learn a bit more about the methodic behind it and why its taking for facts here. all i could find till now is that npd tracks all the major us retailers but not toys r us(if they track em again pls link). i dont know why that should be taken as facts, they will have problems from time to time, and they dont have other data to adjust their tracking method(because companys are using them for tracking). about vgs tracking method we know nothing , we dont know how he gets his sample and how big it is(it could be a far better sample even if he only tracks 1% of the market). i think both are way of from time to time and both are spot on from time to time thats only natural for every tracking.
