(Updated Pokken Tournament logo)
---
Seems like the Tekken team is getting the ball rolling this year with the first batch of info this year for Pokken Tournament finally coming out on the 23rd of January. Clearly, we know very little about this game yet, so it's very exciting to finally have some light shed on some of its features. What are your hopes?

Here's mine:
1. Improved visuals
Frankly, the footage they showed was really ugly. The thing is, Tekken Tag Tournament 2 (always loved the alliteration) on the Wii U looks good, so it's not like the hardware is what's limiting it. Let's hope the game looks better when it's brought to Wii U.
2. Good music
I don't like the soundtracks to Tekken games, but more importantly I don't think they fit Pokemon at all. That's why hearing the Tekken-like music in the first trailer maked me cring. Music is very important in the Pokemon series; especially battle themes. There are so many iconic battle themes to remake that would fit perfectly for this type of game, but they'll fuck it all up if they try to Tekkenize it. That's why I hate the soundtrack to Hyrule Warriors. Those remixes don't match the franchise, and just makes it all sound worse. The same thing can happen here. I hope it doesn't and they take a more Smash Bros. approach to it. Only, not with an orchestra, because it wouldn't feel right in a fighting game like this.
Something like these would be perfect

3. Hardcore fighting mechanics
I want this to be the Injustice or Marvel vs. Capcom of Nintendo games. It should be a hardcore fighting game that caters to Pokemon fans. I DON'T want it to be like, say, the Naruto fighting games. Nothing wrong with those, but I want this to be a game that has the potential to show up at Evo along side the likes of Street Fighter V, Tekken 7, Mortal Kombat X, and Killer Instinct. They have the talent right at their disposal. It's one thing to make it accessable, but just don't go too far with it. I don't want Super Smash Bros: Pokemon Edition. We already have one Smash Bros.
4. A huge roster
Tekken Tag Tournament 2 has 55 playable characters. With over 700 Pokemon to choose from, the roster should be large to match it. 40-50 Pokemon is ideal. Injustice has 30 characters currently. Come one, Tekken Team. You can beat 'em!
5. Differentiate Pokken from Tekken
I want it to feel like a hardcore fighting game, yes, but I don't want it to feel like a Tekken clone. I like what I'm hearing with them changing the guard system and I like what I'm seeing with projectile moves like Lucario's Aura Sphere. Reveal more things like that, and I'm a happy camper.
6. Tag Mode and Story Mode
This is honestly not very necessary, and I'll be fine if the game lacks these, but it would be an awesome bonus if there were a story mode, and especially a tag mode. Tag tournaments just make so much sense with the Pokemon franchise. The entire competitive scene revolves around switching, predicting, and checking your Pokemon, and a tag mode just lends itself so well to that mindset. Even from a purely story perspective, Pokemon have trainers and trainers use more than one Pokemon in battle, so representing this with tag mode would be nice. Same with story mode. I don't expect a master peice, but it would be nice to have some linear mode to play when friends aren't around that isn't just online fights. Tekken 6 had a cool story mode, and it doens't have to be that robust, but anything with effort put into it would be nice.
