Nope, only Splatoon being a fundamentally different shooter is what makes it innovative, though the colorful unrealistic artstyle is nice breath of fresh air in the shooter genre. I don't see how the game being unique is a "random" reason. I'd think that's a very legit reason considering most don't stray too far from traditional shooter conventions so a new experience is very much welcome, but yes it being made by Nintendo is definitely a plus!
