I can understand people like grinding (I like grinding), but why force yourself through such intentionally archaic (in a bad way) gaming design? Why? I don't mind throwbacks to old-school japanese gaming design, but when something is broken, it is broken. It doesn't matter if it is old-school or not.

I love you so much for saying this. These are my exact feelings towards things like random encounters, necessary grinding, n' other unnacessarily annoying things that old japanese games suffer from and people praise them for. Just because it's old and a classic thing to do doesn't mean that it has aged well or is good in its own right.

Back on topic, personally, I haven't touched a single Monster Hunter game, but from the way you describe it and from what I've seen, it seems painful to play. I have no idea what's to be praised about it.

I'm now filled with determination.
