After months of watching Amazon data, I've come to the following conclusions.
The bestsellers is where a lot of people get confused, they believe that it's the best selling items for the previous hour but that simply isn't true. It the best selling items over the past week that is updated hourly. This is why it took over a week for the PS4 to get a good lead over the X1 after the price went back to normal.
Also people get confused what to mention in your comment. Item 'x' can spend all week hovering around a certain position only to be much lower in the weekly or monthly chart. This is due to other items spending a shorter time above item 'x' but selling alot while it's above item 'x' before dropping back down the chart. If, for example, 10 items did this, it can outsell item 'x' overal for the month/week and knock item 'x' down 10 places lower than where it's been hovering all week/month while those 10 item are now nowhere to be on the bestsellers. This is mainly due to price cuts on specific items.
Hope that makes sense
Edit: Late to the party. I just see other comments on this.
