I would say the more differences there are between blacks and whites, the truer they are to themselves, even if being yourself rests on an individual basis. Race is certainly a thing that most people differentiate themselves with, and it should be that way because being different is what makes us human.
Of course there's differences not just between blacks and whites but the differences among blacks and whites as well which are just as important. But differences among blacks are different from the differences among whites, and that's probably the main difference.
