Maybe if they add in some sort of save function that isn't password based.

Cause I hated that password system and I always wanted to max out a char.

All VC games have a softsave function, if that is what would work for you.

Exit a game at any point with the Home button > Wii menu, the next time you start the VC game you can continue exactly where you stopped last time.

Why yes... yes it would.  Hah neat.  Sure i'd lose my character if I started over... but i could just use my NES copy for new games after that.  Have to get that whenever i bother to hook up my Wii online.
