That would have made Zant a new reincarnation of Ganon rather than it's puppet. He would have been in the same level as Agahnim, Ganondorf, Vaati or Yuga. Even so, rather than Ganon, he could have used the Fused Shadows and became a more terrifying monster.

But Ganondorf didn't die yet. Ganon can't have a reincarnation if he is still part of Ganondorf. Or are you saying that Ganondorf should have died in OoT child timeline instead of being sent to the Twilight Realm? In that case, how would Zant know about hyrule and why would he want to conquer it?

In the Ganondorf's execution scene in TP the game show us that Ganondorf somehow got the Triforce of Power. In Ocarina of Time, he doesn't need to be dead to transform into Ganon, he uses his part of the Triforce, just like in TP when you battle against Ganon before Ganondorf. He could have easily transfered from Ganondorf to Zant, or by the powers of the Twili, transformed from Ganondorf to Zant.

Why would he want to transfer from Ganondorf to Zant? To me it doesn't seem like Ganon is a sentient being in itself. It is the manifestation of Demise's curse, more like a force of hatred that thrives off any hatred directed at Hylians than anything else. Whoever is born, ressurects, or merges with it controls it. If Ganon is already with Ganondorf because of the ToP, why would Ganondorf give this power to Zant? And what can Zant do to remove the ToP from Ganondorf? Or are you saying Zant kills Ganondorf, obtains the ToP and control of Ganon in the process? It would have to happen after they arrive in Hyrule , and when Ganondorf is weak (such as when Link defeats him in battle.) I guess that could've happened that way. Although I think I prefer the concept of Zant enacting revenge on Ganondorf with the last of what is left of him as  more than to obtain his power.
