I want to try controller because I don't like keyboard and mouse for this game. Unlike games like Diablo, the character won't go to where you point and click. You have to move by combining the WASD keys with the mouse. This isn't a problem in itself, but it gets frustrating for me becauae of the loot system. You'll spend so much time picking up loot in this game. But even if you're standing RIGHT next to the loot and click on it, your character won't pick it up and you have to move a few pixels closer and try again. And since using the keyboard to move doesnt initiate small and precise movements, but rather quick and clumsy ones (if youre facing one way and press the opposite direction on the keyboard, the character will first move FORWARD, then stop and do a 180 turn), it feels annoying a lot of the times. I wish the character woukd move automatically to the loot if I click on it. Or give me the option to instruct my allies to pick it up. With a controller you dont have to target the loot. You can just walk over it while mashing the pickup button. Abd precise movements are easier with an analog stick. Also, I don't like having to use so many hotkeys for combat. There are 8 hotkeys for skills that you put on buttons 1-8, and that doesnt feel intuitive for me, and if I have my fingers on 1 and 2, but need to quickly press 6, I often miss and hit 5 or 7 instead unless I take my eye off the screen and look down. You can click on them with the mouse too, but since mouse clicking is how you do regular attacks, thats usually not affective. with a controller however you have the hotkeys on your main 4 buttons, and switch between sets of hotkeys with the shoulder button. I like that idea a lot more than using so many hotkeys on pc. Its fine in games like diablo for example where youre limited to 4 hotkeys for skills. But 8 is just too much for me @_@ I've been trying to connect a controller to the game, with no luck so far when trying one of my controllers that works with other games. A few buttons worked, but not the analog stick or the d-pad. So I couldn't even change it back to Keyboard under options again, nor even close the game properly. Had to force shutdown the game. I'll try my PS2 or PS3 controller next with an adaptor. PC Master Race, making gaming so easy! @_@ |
Console version of the game replaces hotkeys with quick inventory wheels on the LB and the Menu screen button on the Xbox One. I find that its easier with the freeze frame strategy mode to place your characters and simply choose from your hotkey commands on what they should do in that instant. I've combo attacked enemies to death. I can see the allure of a mouse and keyboard, but i've learned how to master a controller based strategy relatively quickly. Perhaps if I was playing a game like Starcraft i'd prefer the mouse and keyboard, but Dragon Age? nahhhhhh lol. Heh
