You are right... this is why the WiiU's graphics are behind PS4/XB1/PC. Because they know the ins and outs of their behind the curve hardware.
You realize that more and more engines can handle the "close to the metal" code while simultaenously supporting multiple devices by default?
Lastly, do you realize that if nintendo went 3rd party they'd adapt to the hardware they are selling to.
