Nintendoland makes me think that Metroid could work well as a TPS.

Then again I really want a new 2D Metroid.

The reason I'd be fine not seeing a TPS Metroid is because of how it restricts your access to buttons. With a lock on system, you don't need to glue your thumb to the analog stick, giving you access to four more buttons during combat. While aiming was important in Super Metroid, I think that Prime does a good job at showing how well Metroid boss battles can be designed without precise aiming.

I wouldn't hate it I guess, but I think that it could be done better and offer more options with a lock on system like in Zelda.
