No, Metroid is a platformer. It's not just its roots. Metroidvania is a subgenre unrelated to platformers that Metroid is also apart of, but Metroid is 100% platformer. Every single Metroid game is a platformer. Even the Prime games are platformers. They just aren't very good playformers, for obvious reasons.
