if you think the problem is with mario, and not the console launch/market positioning, then you're misguided. mario sold 11m copies of galaxy, 8m copies of galaxy 2, 30+m copies of mario kart, 12+m copies of ssb brawl... let's not kid ourselves. in the list of bestselling franchises, the top five let's say, pokémon, mario and company are at the very top. the only series that comes close is grand theft auto. but this is no longer relevant to the topic, you're just grinding your axe at this point. watch dogs was a p.o.s., and so was destiny. reviews confirm as much. that's certainly not in dispute. and the best part is the dlc for both reviewed even worse, whereas the dlc for mk8 got the same scores as the whole game. i'm not going to continue this argument, because it's not one worth having. |
And the wii u versions arent going to touch those numbers.
The problem is not mario, the problem is nintendos lack of innovation.
Old IPS are cool, and nintendo makes the most fun games, but they arent selling points for the console anymore for the non-nintendo-fan market.
PS4 has sold double of what wii u sold in half the time, because it has three things
1) New IP's
2) Classic IP's
3) Healthy amount of 3rd party games
And as long as nintendo fans cant accept that, #2 is all you'll get.
