Communication. Dont restrict it. Either answer them or dont. You dont allow people to talk about this outside of this thread. This is the only place where you can get multiple people's opinion on something and also hear what mods have to say as well.
I really wouldnt restrict it. I personally dont feel the last thread should have been removed either. I feel this one was created as a safety blanket really, but this is what the users are saying and i dont think they should be restricted unless theyre crossing a line. If you think people are going too far then say it. If they dont listen then ban them.
This is what happens when you direct all mod talk to one thread. People still want to be heard.
