Lets just all wait for shipped numbers in a context where lies and deception are not acceptable, i.e. the quarterly financials.

Both Microsoft and Sony, and to a lesser extent Sony, have been so dodgy this generation with wording around shipped and sold-through that we just don't actually know what they mean until they are legally required to tell us.

No sense arguing too vehemently about small differences until then.

No need to wait for Sony's financials to believe them when they say they've sold 18.5 million consoles. We can speculate on shipping, however, because the number has to be higher. How much is anyone's guess, and in that case, we can await the financials.

I do believe they have sold 18.5 million consoles. However sold-through, for a manufacturer, technically means sold to their customers, who are retailers. There is of course every possibility they meant sold to consumers and that shipped numbers are distinct, and therefore higher. We hope that, we don't know that.

As a result, waiting a few weeks to know for sure is easier than fighting with poor information. The other option is to harrass Sony execs on Twitter for specific comments (eg. using the words 'end-users' or consumers), which I know is a tactic the Xbox community has begun to adopt (admittedly with varying degrees of success).
