Best: 2002 definitely. Metroid Prime reigns supreme over all action games!
I'm not sure what their worst year would be though. I'm going to just say 2012. Some thought it was the end of days too, lol. The Wii U during that year and 2013 was looked upon pretty harsh and not only did the sales of the Wii U look grim compared to the Wii, the drop itself in sales was bad. They went from that, all the way to GC level sales. And that sucks for two reason; The GC was one of their best consoles, and the only way they were able to sustain Wii level growth was by catering to casuals. Worst double-edged sword ever.
It sounds like Nintendo isn't letting that bother them though now. They know there are hardcore fans out there that will sustain their growth forever even if expansion of their company is out of the question. Mo' money, mo' problems.
Money can help too of course. However, what are you gonna do with assets you haven't been able to use 10 years later after their spark long went out? That doesn't happen with hardcore gamers. We're a sure thing as long as you don't make too many mistakes in a row.
