It's the 15th best selling game on the console and of those the 5th one that only came out this year.
It may have done poorly compared to games on the other consoles but has done extremely well for games on the WiiU. For a console with only 8 titles breaching the 1 million units threshold, 500k isn't a game flopping. It's a game succeeding on a failing console. Sad, but true.
Think of it this way, 500k units is an attach rate of 6% (500,000 units divided by 8.5 million consoles = 5.88%). To put that in perspective, if the same rate were seen on the ps4 it would be 1,070,160 units sold (going with the 5.88% rather than the rounded 6%).
