I don't see these thread titles anymore, so I decided to bring it back.

In any case, Bayo 2 seems to have sold about half a million from the VGC database, which isn't really that good for a title that had Nintendo's backing. It doesn't even appear as though Bayo 2 will even hit a million lifetime.

We already know Wii U has a small install base and Bayo 2 is a niche game. So let's focus on some other aspects:

What does this mean about the future of Bayonetta? Does this title prove the age old assumption of many people that Nintendo consoles will only sell old school Nintendo games such as Mario and Zelda? Can we still blame 3rd parties for not bringing mature games to Wii U when Nintendo themselves couldn't sell Bayo 2, a very mature title to their audience? Should Nintendo just focus on making more old school games and give up on a new mature venture?

Let's discuss.

Where's the "all of them" choice? I get what interests me.

How did one mature second party game sales in one genre, reflect all third party games coming to the Wii U. It likely had nothing to do with it at all, but came about from some people that wants to push that directive. The game could have sold 1:1 with the Wii U and it would still not change any third party support for the system. It's absurd.

Of course many people are going to buy Mario and Zelda games. That goes without question, they are generally very good if not great. If those games went to another system they would sell there as well, that is the same reason we keep seeing 'Nintendo should go third party' threads every week or two. Just because Mario and Zelda games sell doesn't mean that others wont.

Pikmin 3 according to VGchartz has only sold 860000 copies, Captain Toad has only sold 200000 and they are both made by Nintendo and thus had Nintendo's backing. Some games are going to sell well, others likely aren't. Bayo 2 has actually sold quite well for the kind of game it is. Being in the same genre as Ninja Gaiden, God of War and Devil May Cry among others. None of these have proven to be bombastic sellers. DMC is around 3 million on a system with 150 million sales... GOW has done better than that, or any others of these listed but it's still not super amazing, actually it sits around the same attachment rate in ratio with the consoles sold as the PS3 (4.5ish million to 80 million 5.6%) to the Wii U (490000 to 8.5 million 5.7%). Ninja Gaiden has never sold very well, roughly the same as the first Bayonetta. I'm not even going to touch profits or anything like that because I, likely none of us, really have any clue how much each game has cost to make or how much they have needed to be profitabe and with that successful or to be considered a flop.

If Bayo2 is a flop (hasn't made it's money back that it cost to develop it) it's on Nintendo as it was a second party. Platinum got paid either way, Nintendo funded the game so sales would be more for Nintendo than Platinum. I wouldn't be too surprised if it was a fairly small team that worked on the game as Platinum has been working on at least 3 other games in the mean time. Platinum is still around and must have made profits from their other games, none of which have sold stellar, so you can infer what you want from that.

I certainly don't think that Nintendo should give up on expanding their library and with that 'mature' games. It's undeniable that they have a stigma that goes against them on this front. Admittedly, it's rather funny that they do since the Wii U released with more 'mature' games than any other console... but whatever. There is a large slice of the pie that will only go after 'mature' games for one reason or another, it would not make sense for them to ignore that and shrink their potential market instead of attempting to expand it. This should be said for every console maker really though. That's like saying that MS and Sony shouldn't make or release games that are 'family friendly' on their respective consoles. That actually means that LittleBigPlanet, Kinect Adventures should never have been made as they're family friendly, they have actually sold more than any of the aforementioned games each. Oddly enough, Kinect Adventures is the best selling game for the 360.

Gotta figure out how to set these up lol.
