I say New 3DS because what better way to announce the Europe/NA New 3DS release than to announce it with a surprise Metroid exclusive? And Metroid is a natural choice for such exclusivity, as it's a franchise that appeals to serious gamers who are likely to spend the money on a New 3DS, the increased power would enable an improved atmosphere, the potential for Amiibo support is certainly there, and the extra buttons and nub will make for a much easier control scheme. |
Its highly unlikely Nintendo will push original big budget exclusive titles on the new 3DS. It wouldn't be smart from a software sales perspective or PR and probs wouldn't make a huge difference to hardware sales where Metroid is concerned. The N3DS will sell very well on the merits of its hardware improvements to the core Nintendo fanbase, trying too hard to establish it as its own platform will be problematic for Nintendo and will damage the laucnh of their next handheld platform which is probably no more more then 2 years away. I expect gamecube/wii ports and games which work on both but with upgraded performance on N3DS.
2 Metroids sounds like a good idea though. A 2D game for 3DS (fall 2015) and FPS for the Wii U (summer 2016)
