Something with a little ambition this time, please.

Ambition

a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work.

This applies to Retro's work on DK as well, one of the finest platformers you can play. Otherwise we would have had Sonic Boom quality.

DKTF was playing it safe; it was essentially a Wii game with a shiny coat of paint, and it took no risks.

I don't disagree that DKC:TF wasn't exactly a risky game to make, but I don't mind because it was probably just about the best 2D platformer I've ever played; significantly better than DKCR.

I wouldn't exactly call a new Metroid game risky, either. Doing another Metroid Prime would be a pretty safe choice. The main way Retro could actually take a risk would be by going with some sort of new IP.

Personally, I'd like to see another studio have a crack at Metroid and do something different with the franchise, and have Retro work on something new in a different genre than what they've done thus far (so not a first-person adventure or a platformer) followed by another DKC title, say, around 2017-18.
