It would be nice if it were a new, original IP. I've wanted to see them break out and make something wholly their own for years. Their Metroid and DK work has been, for the most part, great. But they are not just the "DK/MP" company, and it kind of annoys me that that seems to be all anyone wants or expects from them. If given the choice between a new Metroid Prime, and a brand new IP, I would take the latter every time.
Having said that, I clearly remember Iwata or someone making a point of saying that Retro now is at a point where they can work on more than one game project at a time, so I would not be surprised if they were right now working on two different games. But who knows. Either way, whatever they're making is sure to at least be revealed this year, because they've been working on it for quite awhile now.
