It's all a matter of perspective, really. Certainly people who owned computers when the NES came out figured that the quality of NES games was far below par compared to what they had on their systems, yet you'll find far more people who fondly recollect the likes of Super Mario Brothers than people who fondly recollect the likes of King's Quest or Might and Magic...
