I meant relevant as in 'worth playing'. But you're right, consumers and the media are shaping Nintendo as irrelevant in the market. The numbers have spoken. |
Definitely worth playing! Sadly I think the market has expanded to a level that Nintendo is not able to meet either due to not caring, not knowing how or simply not wanting to compromise. I talk about the 3rd party games that attract millions apon millions of casual gamers(COD, Battlefield, Assassin's Creed, Destiny). Nintendo captured the casual gaming market with the Wii by the use of a physical 'gimmick' known as motion controls, I respect that because at least they were attempting to innovate and step away from the conventional controller. But somewhere after the Wii's huge success, the bulk of the casual market moved on to games like Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War, Uncharted, Assassin's Creed, Forza etc. Without these key titles and without another new 'gimmick'(the Wii U gamepad has failed to entice casuals over), Nintendo lost the audience that the had with the Wii and have reverted to the position they had with the Gamecube and N64, that is having great first/second party games but much less 3rd party support and low sales compared to the competition.
