It's posable that no console going forward ever will (not anytime in the next 20 years or so anyway).
Here is why.
I have every confidence that the PS3, by the end of its life, will outsell the PS2. It has far more reason to last longer on the market. It has online, HD in ever console, plays the movie format of the next generation, still has a ton of untapped potential, and due to gaming budgets today, is about as powerful a system as anyone will develop to for a while.
The reason it will sell less software, is because a lot less will be made for it. It cost a lot to make this generation games. It's been regulated to only high end development shops.
The PS2 was seeing a what, a thousand games a year average for it's lifetime? I don't expect anything close to that for the PS3 or 360. The Wii, maybe.
