With so many comparisons this gen between 3DS and GBA, it's hard to believe that none of these have popped up (or so I believe). Anyway, will more software sell on 3DS by the time it's all said and done, or will GBA stay above it.

According to VGChartz Tracked Totals, the total amount of software for GBA is 318.89m

The 3DS, which has only been available since February 2011, already has 165.26m according to VGChartz Tracked Totals

Also, comparing games,

Mario platformers have already won (if that's even comparable since GBA just had remakes)

Mario Kart 7 has already driven miles around Super Circuit

A Link Between Worlds may beat A Link to the Past, the highest selling GBA Zelda, but if not including that Zelda has already won

Kirby is currently tracking higher on GBA, but Triple Deluxe seems to be doing well, and if legs serve it right, it could get numbers near 2m but would still lose. But if we're comparing it to orignal GBA entires in the series, it has a strong chance of winning.

Fire Emblem is obviously crushing on 3DS

Let's not bring up Donkey Kong since most of them were spinoffs or ports, and 3DS isn't differing much farther

Pokemon Dungeon is losing and probably will since the appeal has left

Pokemon remakes are losing on 3DS but are really new so they may beat FireRed, LeafGreen

Pokemon X/Y might beat Ruby/Sapphire

One thing 3DS does have is a lot of simulators. They seems to be doing well (ex. Animal Crossing, Tomodachi Life)

But then GBA had Sonic games that sold well and most people were focusing mobile development on GBA, where attention has been diverted among 3DS, Vita, and iOS since they are all unique in their own way

Metroid hasn't appeared (yet)

3DS currently stands at 48.5m according to the front page, and GBA stands at 81.5. That's a 33m differnece, and 3DS has sold an average of 41.32m games sold per year. Add in digital sales, and by the end, I think 3DS will beat GBA by a small amount in hardware, but a larger amount software

*Note: not doing a Wii U/ GC version of this because it's still too early and also there is no 3rd party interest on Wii U. 3DS at least has some
