Nintendo releases their games when they are really done, not in a obvious beta state like other companies do. Since playtesting and debugging can take quite some time just as much as being over very fast depending on the game and the state of the initial code, setting a release date more than 3 month in advance is actually a very unpractical thing to do and just contributes to games being rushed, unfinished and/or buggy at release date.
However, Nintendo does wait a little too long before announcing release dates. This might be due to all the delays Wii U games went through during the first year and can be their way to avoid them altogether. After all, something that never got a release date can't be too late to meet the schedule.
