Gotcha...You did make it to the end of Mario WiiU, right? This is exactly what happens in that game...pretty intense stuff right there. I do think that now that Nintendo has gotten to get their hands dirty with HD gaming that we'll see more gameplay advancements from them. I agree about Doki Doki Panic being a nice departure in the series and I also long for that kind of disruption within the series...but I think if we look at it practically...Nintendo took an easy path to get a game ready for their new system at launch. Retro did the same thing with Donkey Kong. In a way I think that releasing Mario Maker will be the final chapter in the current style we have been seeing. Or I hope so at least. |
I also like the more organic level designs of DKC. Except for the floating bananas and barrels everything seems to make sense. In Mario the levels are very stale with lot's of things that are floating in the air while they shouldn't (bricks, etc.). But that's just a personal preference.
DKC levels feel like living and breathing worlds. I never get that feeling with Mario games.
And I didn't bother buying NSMBU, I saw the reviews and knew I wasn't going to like it (especially because I never finished the Wii version I bought). I'll check out a let's play tonight to see those final levels, maybe it does get better.
