"But it’s unclear how many of these represent individuals who paid to rent the film. Users who pay can easily share the link with friends."

So not every one of those 77.5 million views was paid, I hope Sony financials in January/February will gives us more clarity on how much the movie actually made/lost.

Oh and I just read that the 77.5 million include trailer views since the trailer and the full movie apparently have the same youtube link, that should distort the number quite a bit.

I'm pretty sure that's not how it works.  Otherwise, Youtube would barely make any money on movies.  Only one person could rent/buy a movie, then give out the link for all to watch, just killing the point.  I'm pretty sure that if someone gave me a link to the movie, it would just bring me to the page that allows me to rent it myself.

Dude, I highly doubt that they made that up.

It might not be how it's supposed to work, but it did/does for this movie, possibly something that Youtube/Sony overlooked.

Or it could be something that they just assumed works, but never actually tried it.  Do we have any other sources that back it up?  Or that back up the trailer theory from a single Reddit post?
