Dragons Dogma is another good example

Dragon's Dogma wants you to prevent exiting the game in case you fucked up. If you fuck up, the game will automatically save and you won't be able to do nothing to fix it unless you:

a) beat the game, start over again.

b) completely erase your save file.

Capcom took some cues from Animal Crossing :P

Wouldn't it be one save per character instead of 1 save at all then ?

Actually, there's two save files but one of them is kinda hidden. Whenever you would sleep at a inn or go inside of a rift crystal or if something important happened, it would do a checkpoint save. If you saved manually or it autosaved, it would do a regular save. You can choose the option of going back to your last checkpoint save or just reloading a regular save.
