Games that restrict you to ONE SAVE...why is this a thing?

As a programmer, I'll tell you that the more complex the game, the harder it will be for the developer to incorporate save files while avoiding bugs. They may have some other reasons as well, but I'm sure that one of the factors they base their decision on is how hard it will be to incorporate save files into a game versus how important they think it is to have save files in that particular game.
