I'm never immersed by realtime action RPG because the combat looks plain silly (I think you know what I mean, e.g. being able to hit someone even though your sword obviously never hit him, etc.).
There has never been a MAIN Pokémon game on a Nintendo console which invalidates your argument. It would probably sell over 60 million copies combined. Pokémon is easily the biggest franchise in the world held back only by Gamefreak's archaic thinking (and the fact that it's a Nintendo exclusive!).
