Yeah,Japanese market is in a really bad path! For 3ds the yoy down is slight,I would say negligible if you allow me,and it was the first time since new3ds/xl released,so we can say that the only bright spot in Japan is 3ds...!Did you expect this turn for psvita, can we say that the future of it probably becomes bleak even in Japan?

wii u has outsold  psvita, which is a handheld for three straight times and may for fourth on dec, while wii u it's quite yoy down.

As luck would have it,wasn't below ps4.

Ninsect, said that sony products have the last week as their best selling week  of the year, consequently psvita should be above wii u next week according to ninsect and stop wii u winning streak against it!

What happened in your opinion?2014 was seeming to be a promising year for psv sales in Japan and sony had boasted for the decent psv perfomance in Japan!Did psvita need a revision,new3ds/xl afflicted it?What?

... what?

Vita has been selling consistently all year.  WiIU has been down in the dumps all year.  It really doesn't matter if it has outsold is these past few weeks - you'd expect it to.  Nintendo hardware gets its biggest boosts from holidays as it's more likely to be a gift given by adults to children.

The week Ninsect is talking about is the final week of the year - which includes New Year's Eve and New Year's day.  That isn't next week.  Next week. WiiU will still be above Vita.

The reason he's saying that Vita will get a boost is  something like this -  parents given children money at the New Year in Japan and the children then go out and spend this money on consoles they want.  In the past, we've always seen bigger hardware gains from Sony consoles rather than Nintendo consoles.  This is in comparison to the run up to the holidays when parents are buying FOR children and therefore more likely to get Nintendo stuff.

Check previous years for more evidence of what he is talking about:

Vita needs games.  That's the only thing that's hamstringing it in Japan at the minute.  The hardware is fine; the competition is fine.  It just has no major IP's on it outside of arguably God Eater, and a port of Final Fantasy.  It needs the staples that have always kept PS consoles afloat in Japan like Final Fantasy; Resident Evil; Gran Turismo; Metal Gear Solid and more recently Monster Hunter.

At the moment, it's getting a massive amount of niche games and it's selling like a niche machine.  It's never going to break out of that cycle without bigger IP's.
