I think Amiibo was smart financially, even though you'll never see me within 10 feet of those things. My problem is that they've done nothing to capitalize on it at all like with Skylanders and Disney Infinity which makes them nessecary.
They should be releasing a free to play game that unlocks bits and peices of it just like with those games depending on your Amiibo. If it was a MOBA with the same accessability that Smash created for the fighting genre, then they'd've literally done to MOBAs what Goldeneye for FPS games. There are nearly 1m Amiibo sold, and everyone who owns one could have been getting more invested into this game, which would they give people more reason to want even more Amiibo to unlock more characters, and so forth.
They dropped the ball so hard with this thing.
