They don't need to rush with the new console. Whenever they release it, it will still be irrelevant among most users and will not attract developers either. Sure, I understand the need from Nintendo fans to play Mario Kart 9, Zelda 14 and Smash Bros 12, but the general population has moved on.
People prefer to play mature games available on PS4/XOne, while casuals that bough 100 million hand-waving Sports/Fit remotes have moved onto Candy Crush and other mobile games and will never again buy a $300 dust collector.
If WiiU is struggling to reach 10 million in more than 2 years, its successor would struggle to sell 10 million in 5 years.
Nintendo needs to ride WiiU out for another 4-5 years, concentrate on handhelds and port Mario and Donkey Kong to smartphones.
