New IP's are a lot more important to me than innovation in a established franchise. I usually stop playing franchises a couple of games in because they either make them too often or they get kinda shitty. They don't really improve upon the core of the game. AC, COD, Battlefield, Resident evil, zelda (old story) are some of the series I won't touch with a ten foot pole. I rather play new IP's like No man's sky.

I don't think innovation is a problem or should be a huge focus. Sometimes that back fires *cough* wii u *cough*. Alot of the video game companies just keep putting out remakes, remasterings or more games in a franchise without really improving upon it. Hell, sometimes they take stuff away from the game like dragon age 2 and mass effect 2. They sometimes change too much stuff in a series without really thinking about it.

As far as franchises go, the next installment should be an overall improvement. I believe that a franchise should focus on story, character development, game lore, deeper npc interaction, better game play. I rather have more in-game content or a richer game than more graphics.
