Why do sales matter? A lot of people here claim Last of Us was GOTG last gen but it got outsold by:

MK Wii
NSMB Wii
GTA V
Halo 3
Pretty much every CoD after MW
A slew of other titles

Nice one, comparing a new IP at the end of the gen against the sequals of the already established franchises. Lets compare the first instalments of those games against TLoU, which is now at around 10-11M (PS3+4)

TLoU outsold the first MK on SNES

...the first GTA on PS1

...the first Halo on original Xbox

...the first COD as well

all by a considerable margin, mind you

The only first instalment it didnt outsell was Mario Bros which was bundled with every NES sold at  no extra price

How many new IPs of the last gen outsold TLoU? Not a single one
