While I don't think DAI is a GOTY basing your argument on Metacritic is not a good start.

I believed ALBW won the GOTY at Gamespot (those glorious meltdowns).

SM3D mostly won gotys at Nintendo only sites (gonintendo, nintendolife, etc) as they didn't have much of a choice.

That obsession with DAI is weird though. It's an absolutely solid game but it has issues and it's missing something special.

It's a Bioware game. Everyone pretends that the hollow characters and meh story are actually entertaining. If Mass Effect 2 can somehow win GOTY awards, anything from Bioware can.
