The 1983 crash would have marked the end of the console gaming industry? Only in America perhaps. The Famicom in Japan and the Sega Master System in Europe were successful regardless of what happened in America.
But even if the NES was not released in the States, something would have emerged to fill the void. Perhaps the conditions were ripe because of the crash, given that it left Nintendo without any real competition.
